Mercedes Lucy is a Margate-based artist working primarily in ceramics, drawn to the medium for its tactility, versatility, and connection to both art and craft. Her practice spans handmade objects, sculptures, and illustrations, fluidly moving between two- and three-dimensional forms.
Her distinctive tiles explore the intersection of function and creativity, often infused with playful humour. Inspired by nature and everyday life, her work reflects themes of domesticity, feminism, motherhood, grief, and identity. Embracing the slow rhythm of ceramics, she creates with intention, challenging traditional notions of value in women’s work.
A studio holder at Tracey Emin’s Margate studios since 2022, Mercedes crafts pieces rich in form, texture, and perspective—offering beauty, utility, and quiet joy.
